I would covet the church's prayers for a tragic event that happened at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) sports camp in Pella, IA. Last night two boys from Kansas City drowned in the Pella aquatic center. They were 14 & 15 years old. The 15 year old had a sister that was also at the camp and was taken home late last night. This camp has deep ties with my family for many years, so this comes as an extreme shock and is very sad. My dad is coaching soccer at the camp this summer and my brother was participating in the basketball camp. My brother, Gabe, was in the same huddle as the 14 year old boy that died. My brother and my dad are both struggling with what happened. Pray that my dad may be able to love and comfort the athletes well and also point them to Jesus during this time. The details as to how this happened hasn't been released, but from what I have heard from my friends who are working as coaches and huddle leaders the campers are devastated and in extreme shock. Please be in prayer for the families of the boys, the other campers (all of them are high school students), the huddle leaders (all of them are college students), and the coaches and others on staff working this wonderful camp. Tonight is the usual night where the gospel is shared and students can speak about how this week has impacted their walk with the Lord. Please pray that God's love and grace will be poured out today and tonight and on into the next few days and weeks as all of these kids process what happened. It can be hard to understand the why's, how's, and what if's but my prayer and my family's prayers are that God would be bringing more men and women to himself through this.
