Isaac's UIHC Otolaryngology Appt. (6/17/10):

So the bad news is that we don't really know much more than we did before we went to Iowa City today, but the good news is that as of now he doesn't need any surgery.
Today was a long day. We were glad to make it down to Iowa City safely. We were almost in an accident on the way & then right down the street from the hospital we hit a pot hole & got a flat tire. We were thankful we were all okay & that we left early.
The doctors were able to use a high powered otoscope to look into Isaac's ears. They said that there was a lot of impacted ear wax because of his small canals, so they cleaned that out. They still can not tell for sure if there is fluid behind the ear drums & the tests they do for that are not helpful b/c of the small canals. They did a hearing test & as far as they can tell, his hearing is not affected. If he were to ever have tubes put in then they would have to be specially made to fit through his canals. But since we don't know for sure if he even has fluid in his ear & it seems that his hearing is okay, we have all decided to wait to do anything. We will go back down in 3 months to have them check to see if there is any growth with his canals. They will clean out his ears again (which will most likely be an ongoing issue) & also do more hearing tests. We were pleased that the doctors were not quick to suggest doing anything. If Isaac continues to stay healthy, grows & develops adequately, & is hearing well, then having small ear canals is not a serious problem. They said they would like to be more on the conservative side when it comes to surgery & only do it if it's absolutely necessary. We are confident with this decision to wait it out & pray that he continues to do well. We know that he is in good hands. The Otolaryngologists at the University are the top doctors in the country.
Thank you all for your concern, support, & prayers. We appreciate it!

Amanda Fisher

Some of you may remember Heather Redig who attend CHBC while in college.  Those from the Green's Acts group will also remember her.  She has served on medical mission trips and has sent this email for prayer and praise.

Hello Everyone!

For those of you who do not know me I am Heather Redig's sister.  She wanted me to send you all her prayer updates b/c she was worried if she sent a mass email from Africa it would end up in most people's spam and no one would ever see it.  Thanks so much for praying for her!

Love,

Laura

Hey!
Yesterday Tim suggested I send out a praise and prayer update weekly while I'm here.  So here 'goes.  First I want to start by thanking you all for your prayers and support while I'm here.  I greatly appreciate them!!!

Prayer requests: Last week we went to Bongolo for a prayer retreat with our summer interns.  While there I felt God remind me that He did call me to missions.  The next day I felt very anxious and my heart was pounding for no reason.  Something gave me the idea it might be Spiritual, so I had some of the girls pray with me.  I felt better after we prayed, and thought all was good.  Well, this past week I've been a little on edge, tense, stressed...Tim and I talked yesterday, and he prayed with me.  I think I have been under a Spiritual attack.  I have felt better since Tim and I prayed yesterday, but I don't think this will be the end of this war.  Please pray for strength, courage and protection for me while I continue this adventure God has sent me on.
Also please pray for Kristin.  She's one of our summer interns.  She has been feeling weak, tired, and just not well.  We think she may have Mono, and are going to take her to get a blood test tomorrow.  She has a wonderful attitude, but she isn't able to do as much as she would like to, as she is very tired and sleeps a lot.

Praise: Our summer interns arrived 2 1/2 weeks ago.  They all made it safe and sound.  A few have been a little sick here and there, but Kristin is the only one that has stayed 'sick.'  The interns are all wonderful!  They are happy all the time and very fun to be with!  I am looking forward to getting to know them throughout the summer!

Well, I think I'll end here.  Thank you all again so much for keeping me in your prayers, and thank you all for your support.  Oh, I wanted to also mention that I could still use financial support.  You can send it to my parents at:

Heather
